Why this site does not edit existing PDF text

Editing text inside a PDF is harder than it looks. A PDF stores positioned glyphs rather than paragraphs, so changing a word means re-flowing a line, matching a font that may only be partially embedded, and hoping the result does not shift everything after it. Tools that do this well have spent years on it.

Rather than ship a version that works on simple documents and quietly mangles complex ones, this project does not offer it at all and says so on every relevant page. If rewriting existing text is your task, use a tool built for it.

What browser-side editing does well

The common edits are additions, not rewrites: initialling a page, dating a form, signing a contract, circling a clause, dropping a logo onto a cover sheet, adding a link. All of those are supported here, and every object is positioned in the page's own coordinate space, so what you see on screen is where it lands in the export.

Because none of that requires a server, the whole edit happens on your device, including the signature you draw and the export you download. For a contract, a tenancy agreement or a medical form, keeping the document local is often worth more than the features being given up to get it.

What this site does not do

Stated up front, because finding out after loading a file is worse than reading it here:

• Existing PDF text cannot be edited here. That is a deliberate scope decision, not a bug.
• No OCR, so a scanned page has no text to work with.
• No true redaction. Cropping and covering hide content without removing it from the file.
